Do you love to paint and inspire others through your creative expression? We have an amazing opportunity for you to create hopeful paintings that will be shared with families in crisis in our community.

Join us at the MacLaren for this 5-week creative series, led by local artist Leandra Almeida, in collaboration with Redwood Park Communities to fill the walls in Lillian Place’s community great room, bringing colour, brightness & hope to the families that will live in the adjoining apartments.

Lillian Place is:

Redwood’s first Family Short-Term Supportive Housing Centre in partnership with The Salvation Army to meet the needs of families in a housing crisis. This project provides temporary supportive housing to help families get back on their feet and into permanent housing. The two-storey building consists of 12, fully furnished, 2-bedroom apartments, 4 that are fully accessible, as well as a large great room – community space with a full spacious kitchen and a large stone fireplace. Lillian Place will be a hopeful space where families’ lives intersect, fostering community and where they can live together comfortably and thrive.

On the first week of the series, November 7, the youth will meet at the site (Lillian Place) – to see the community great room that they will be creating their pieces for. Here they will spend some time getting a sense of the environment and the energy of the space hoping to inspire their ideas & artwork. This process will be an opportunity for youth to share their creativity with families in our community – creating for a collaborative space – through workshops facilitated by a local artist – as well as gaining experience and connectedness with local support service partners – Redwood Park Communities. The hope is that this artwork will use colour, brightness & positive themes to collectively bring hopefulness into this great room – communal space uplifting those who will live there!

Sorry, this event has passed.
