Did you know that native seeds have different shapes based on how they want to be distributed? Join local plant expert Ashley Hammell, Co-founder of Pollinate Barrie, as you embark on a 4-week journey to learn how to responsibly harvest and store native seeds. Be inspired through this process as you respond creatively through colourful painting, collage and printmaking processes. Collect & Create together!

**Please note that on the first workshop of this series – September 28 – we will take a walk to the Maple Avenue Pollinator Gardens to collect seeds from the native flowers and plants that we planted last year during our Pollinator Talk, Walk & Plant! We will also take in the “Seeds to Sow” Public Art Exhibition along the waterfront to find connections & inspiration for this series. We will still meet at the MacLaren that day for both dropoff & pickup. (field trip form to be signed upon first day sign in at the front desk)

This program responds to the City of Barrie’s temporary public art exhibition, Seeds to Sow. The exhibition features six installations of site-specific artwork that will change Barrie’s landscape from September 27 to November 8. The artworks draw on local ecologies, history, and stories. The act of planting a seed is a powerful symbol of hope and potential. It connects us to ongoing cycles of seasonality, an inheritance from our past and an intention for the future.

Sorry, registration is closed. Please email natalie@maclarenart.com to join the waiting list.
