Pre-Register in Person: First Come, First Served
Every Sunday is Family Sunday at the MacLaren Art Centre, and it can be done face-to-face once again.
The MacLaren Art Centre recently reopened its doors to visitors and that means the downtown Barrie gallery can begin welcoming back school-aged children and their families for in-person workshops.
Each Sunday represents a different theme or lesson, guided by regional artists Shauna Umney-Grey and Dania Jaremczuk. One or the other will spend 90 minutes each Sunday leading families in creative projects they can complete together.
Each course runs from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. every Sunday, (excluding Thanksgiving Sunday on October 10). It is expected online pre-registration will be offered in the future, but for now, it’s first come, first served. In-person registration begins at 1 p.m. each Sunday,
The fee for Family Sundays is $5 per child, or free for MacLaren Family membership holders. There is a maximum of four children and two adults per workshop. Due to COVID protocols, each workshop is limited to 25 participants.
On Sunday, September 26, families can work together to create a whimsical, collaborative story using collage and hand-drawn elements. The following Sunday will see a workshop inspired by the works of the late Henri Matisse, with families drawing with scissors, so to speak, to create colourful, textured images.

Family Sundays is a long-standing program at the MacLaren; during the pandemic and the stay-at-home orders that came with it, workshops took place online.
