Questions Nobody Asked Me

In Questions Nobody Asked Me, Barrie-based artist Peyton Keeler-Cox presents contemporary photographs alongside archival images that examine memory, grief, care, and chosen family. The work centres on the home of Roy, a longtime neighbour of the artist and her family, whose presence shaped an unexpected relationship built through years of exchange and trust.

Living in Barrie before his passing in November 2022, Roy entrusted Keeler-Cox and her family with his estate. In the process of tending to his home and moving through his personal archives, the artist encountered materials that reflected Roy’s life with his late wife, revealing a tender history of companionship. In Roy’s sunlit dwelling, the artist frames care, partnership, and chosen family as central to the life of the house, while acknowledging its transformation marked by absence.

As a steward of the estate, Keeler-Cox positions herself within these spaces as a participant in their ongoing redefinition. Questions Nobody Asked Me reflects on unexpected relationships, how care can extend across generations, and how domestic environments can hold layered histories.

Peyton Keeler-Cox is a Barrie-based photographer and artist. Captivated by documenting the human condition and experience through uncovering themes of memory, grief, space, and relationships. Peyton has completed her BFA in Image Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her practice stems from investigating and activating the archive and seeking truth and understanding in the world and people around her. She is driven in being a vessel for others and exposing the deeper complexities in the feelings and relationships we each have.
