Culture Days Kick-Off

Date: Saturday, September 20
Time: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Location: Barrie Marina (North end of Centennial Beach)
Cost: Free, Drop-in

An extension of Jill Price’s exhibition at the MacLaren Art Centre, From There to Here: Walking for Tomorrow, come learn how to create your very own cyanotype. An eco-friendly alternative to traditional photo-processing techniques, visitors will be invited to create playful prints using different objects Price has collected during a series of local beach cleans. Participants can stick around to see how the sun exposes images and watch how the water helps to further develop what you dreamed up, visit her show at the gallery, or take a walk along the waterfront before coming back to help rinse, dry and/or collect their magical work on paper.

Sorry, this event has passed.

Description

Dr. Jill Price is an interdisciplinary artist and educator grateful to be living on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi Nations in Barrie, Ontario. Inspired by years spent playing on the beach as a child and competitive beach volleyball player, Price works at the intersection of art, ethics, ecology and aesthetics to explore how creatives can help to UN/make harm so that art becomes a service that ushers in acts of care and repair.
