You know more than you think you know, and your guide is your own intuition.

Join us for a special master class, where exhibiting artist Frances Thomas will provide expert guidance so you can leave your artistic self-judgment and fear behind! Starting with a tour and discussion about the artwork in the exhibition Ron Shuebrook & Frances Thomas in Conversation, Frances Thomas will lead a series of morning warm-up exercises, cultivating a stronger connection to your creative intuition. In the afternoon, participants will engage in a focussed intensive for the creation of a final work that reflects their authentic voice as a maker. The master class will conclude with a discussion—a moment for each to gather, present their ideas and look at the work objectively—without judgment. All experience levels welcome. Materials included.

Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset (1883 – 1955) proposed that we focus on the only truthful reality: “my life” — the life of the individual (reality is not outside of the subject). He believed that a life cannot be detached from one’s circumstances (nor from objects) and it led to his famous maxim “Yo soy yo y mi circunstancia” (“I am I and my circumstance”). Further he denounced a life of convention and given structures, saying that we must be active, decide, and create a “project of life”.
