Vibrant Vistas

Wolfgang Wehrfritz, Lazy River Bend, oil on canvas, 25 x 34 cm. Courtesy of the artist.

Responding to the Simcoe County landscape, the artworks in this juried group exhibition are inspired by the colours, textures and vistas of our region. The call for submissions was open to all members of the Barrie Art Club, a community organization with over 200 members. Each of the selected works represents the landscape in a surprising way, embracing stylistic risk-taking and technical innovation. The jurors favoured works that depart from traditional definitions of the landscape genre, in which artists’ personalities come to the fore. Experimentation with subject matter, scale, colour and composition were highly valued, as well as forays into abstraction, expressionism and conceptualism. The participating artists are: Jo Appleby, André Beneteau, Sheila Bristow, Vincent Di Norcia, Thomas Salvatore Giglione, Pat Hart, Leonora Husveti-Frenette, Elisabeth Kippers, Silvija Hord, Merv Richardson, Audrey Saunders, Wolfgang Wehrfritz, Karen Whytock and Deb Woods.
