Guelph artist Cheryl Ruddock explores the parameters of painting from raw, elemental marks to the object of the stretched canvas. Her imagery is comparably concerned with archetype, finding affinity between botanical form, the body, its apparel and vessels. Depicted in isolation and with intense hues, Ruddock imbues her paintings as symbols or icons. The Transports are her most recent series, tapered frames that support a canvas stretched in the round, wrapped, decorated and beaten by the artist, their resemblances run from hollow seed pods to hermetically sealed kayaks,

This exhibition is an extension of Cheryl Ruddock: Slip, curated by Dawn Owen for the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre, University of Guelph, on view at the Campus Gallery, Georgian College in Barrie from October 14 to November 14, 2010. The exhibition opening will be at the Campus Gallery, October 14.
