December 4 to 29, 2014
The MacLaren Art Centre is proud to present Journal, an exhibition of artwork created by children and youth participating in fall programmes at the Gallery. Inspired by Arnaud Maggs: Scrapbook, Journal brings together mixed-media artwork representing the ephemera of everyday life.
Led by regional artist Teresa Moore, Art in 3D participants ages ten to fourteen explored various sculptural techniques culminating in a casting and moulding workshop, producing whimsical reliefs in plaster. The sculptural potential of the everyday object is explored with uniquely personal outcomes.
Participants in W-Edge, a free drop-in studio programme for youth ages fourteen to eighteen, were guided by regional artist Tyler Durbano in the creation of mixed-media artwork full of found images, patterned prints, drawing and painting to fashion contemporary self-portraits of their own.
Participating children and youth include: Abby Ahern, Makayla Donkers, Riley Onlock-Doyle, Sara Kelly, Carson Kwiakowski, Natasha Pearson, Galbraith Saunders, Torrance Smith, Liam Stone, Teagh Tremain, Tessa Webb, Alicia Wolfenden and Amy Zhu.
