Massie Family Sculpture Courtyard
Reception: Sunday, February 6, 2 to 3:30 pm

Award-winning snow sculptor Denis Bolohan of Cookstown, Ontario, has participated in competitions in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Michigan, Colorado and Moscow, Russia. He will bring his special artistic skills home to Simcoe County by creating a monumental new work in the Massie Family Sculpture Courtyard, timed to coincide with the 2011 Barrie Winterfest. The week-long process of roughing out a ten-foot-high snow block and progressively refining it into an intricate organic form begins on January 29 and will be available to public view. The result will be an immense, frosty white black walnut, based on Bolohan’s careful studies of how a delicate nutmeat forms in the shell.
