The MacLaren Art Centre is pleased to present In-Situ: The Story of Place, an exhibition of artwork created by youth that explores memory and personal narrative in response to the regional landscape.

Led by regional artist Tanya Cunnington, participants in W-Edge, our weekly youth art programme, took part in a series of mixed-media sculpture workshops. During these after-school gatherings, youth worked closely with Tanya exploring the concepts of installation, site-specific art and story-telling.

With particular locations in mind, youth were guided by Tanya in a series of two walks in downtown Barrie. They took photos of their sculptural pieces within the landscape, resulting in a series of site-specific photographic works sharing personal memories, observations and stories.

The artworks on view are by Vicky Clow, Jade Burch, Sarah Kelly, Natasha Pearson, Andrea Samuels and Michael Smith.

W-Edge is a free drop-in studio programme for youth ages 14 to 18, Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Led by practicing artists, this programme takes place in the MacLaren Rotary Education Centre. Materials are provided. Newcomers are always welcome!

Our appreciation is extended to TD Bank for their generous support of youth programmes at the MacLaren.
