Community and Youth Programmes: FRAMED
March 10 to March 31, 2011
Molson Community Gallery
Reception: Thursday, March 10, 7 to 9 pm
This student-organized exhibition will be on display in the Molson Community Gallery of the MacLaren from March 10 and features artworks by Cameron Burton, Lilian Ghazarian, Georgeanne Matthews, Meaghan Paterson and Allaura Shaw, all students from Georgian College’s School of Design and Visual Arts.
FRAMED looks at framing devices around installed works—from the traditional wooden frame to frames within the artwork, as well as the contemporary practice of using the edges of the canvas or paper as the frame. These five emerging artists are interested in how the type of frame changes the relationship between the viewer and the work, and the relationship between the artworks themselves. This concept extends to include the broader frames of the wall, the room, the institution and the city.
The artists will be present to speak about their work at the MacLaren on Thursday, March 10, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, during the Gallery’s reception for its spring exhibitions.
