An installation view of Boundless Possibilities, a community and youth exhibition
April 25 to May 17, 2015
Rotary Education Centre
Reception: Thursday, May 7, 7 to 9 pm
The MacLaren Art Centre is pleased to present Boundless Possibilities, an exhibition of artwork that explores ideas, images, materials and techniques sourced from popular culture.
Led by exhibiting artist Matt Macintosh, participants in W-Edge, our weekly youth art programme, took part in a series of twelve open-studio workshops. During these after-school gatherings, youth worked closely with Matt learning how to best articulate their ideas.
Inspired by Matt’s studio process, the participants incorporated found images and repurposed or mass-produced materials. Using preparatory sketches, collages, drawing and painting, these young artists had the opportunity to work from their own areas of interest, choosing the best materials and media for artistic expression.
Participants include Victoria Burnett, Sara Kelly, Charlotte Kurs, Riley McQueen, Katie Meyer, Natasha Pearson, Galbraith Saunders, Gillian Vasoff and Serena Wentzell.
Join us this spring for W-Edge: Art in Motion, a new series of youth workshops culminating in the creation of a public art project for Kempenfest. W-Edge is a free drop-in studio programme for youth ages 14 to 18, Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm to June 17, 2015. This programme takes place in the MacLaren Rotary Education Centre. Materials provided. Newcomers are always welcome!
Thanks to TD Bank for their ongoing support of youth programmes at the MacLaren.
