Family Sundays
Dates: April 1-June 26, 2022 (no class on Easter Sunday, April 17)
Times: Sundays: 1:30 – 3:00 pm, 12 workshops
Fees: $5/Child or Free for MacLaren Members; Materials included

Every Sunday is Family Sunday at the MacLaren. Regional artists Shauna Umney-Grey, Janine Wheeler and Kim Brett will lead creative projects that families can complete together. From painting, to drawing, to sculpture and more, these short workshops are the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Program is ideal for school-aged children.
Fee is $5 per child/free for MacLaren Family membership holders (maximum of four children and two adults).
As of April 3, 2022, we will be running two sessions of Family Sunday back-to-back every Sunday with the same activity.
Registration begins in person at 1:00pm for Session 1 and 2:00 for Session 2.
- Session 1 will run 1:15 – 2:15pm (Max 25 participants)
Session 2 will run 2:30 – 3:30pm (Max 25 participants)

Sunday, April 3 Kim | Super Stamping Using household objects to create patterns and designs, families will work together to create an original art print. |
Sunday, April 10 Shauna | Mountain Collage Families will use tear paper and use collage to create unique landscapes featuring the mountains! |

Sunday, April 24 Shauna | Gorgeous Paper Flowers In this program, families will learn how to create giant paper flowers to celebrate the beauty of spring! |
Sunday, May 1 Janine | Rain, Rain, Go Away Using watercolour techniques, and collage, participants will depict a rainy-day scene in this mixed media piece. |
Sunday, May 8 Shauna | Creative Clay Pots Using air-dry clay, families will explore clay sculpting to hand-build and decorate pinch pots that can hold a special surprise |
Sunday, May 15 Janine | Fun with Foil Monoprinting Families will learn and experiment with monoprinting! Using foil, water-based mediums, resists and reductive techniques, families will create one-of-a-kind prints! |
Sunday, May 22 Shauna | Animal Homes Using collage, families will learn about animal habitats and create unique artworks about their favourite animals and their homes. |
Sunday, May 29 Janine | Putting Down Roots Using different textured papers and other materials, families will “plant” their own gardens. |
Sunday, June 5 Shauna | Underwater Silhouettes Families will use acrylic paint to create an underwater scene and add silhouette cut-outs of marine life. |
Sunday, June 12 Janine | Thirsty for Summer In this mixed media work, participants will, looking forward to summer, create a picnic scene complete with their choice of refreshing drink! |
Sunday, June 19 Shauna | Peg Doll Self Portraits Participants will creating miniature versions of themselves using peg dolls, to be given to friends and family as a gift. |
Sunday, June 26 Kim | Fascination and Fluidity Explore the fascinating effects when dish soap and watercolour paint are combined, families will collaborate together to create an original painting inspired by the summer. |
