Come be a kid again and create your very own Cyanotype with local artist Jill Price. Using different objects Price has collected during a series of local beach cleans, visitors will be invited to create playful prints on handmade paper that Price has created.  As an eco-friendly alternative to traditional photo-processing techniques, stick around to see how the sun exposes images and watch how the water further develops what you dreamed up!

Dr. Jill Price is a local interdisciplinary artist and educator grateful to be living on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi Nations in Barrie, Ontario. Inspired by years spent playing on the beach as a child and competitive beach volleyball player, Price has been conducting beach cleans to help protect the sandy shores and bodies of water she has come to love. Currently exhibiting at the MacLaren Art Centre with her exhibit Jill Price: Between Here and There: Walking for Tomorrow, stop by the centre to view other works that document how she works to care for the environment while creating an exhibition.

Tessa Deneumoustier

Tessa Deneumoustier is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in oil painting and digital illustration. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Guelph with a major in Studio Art and a minor in Art History. She has shown her work in exhibitions at the Boarding House Gallery in Guelph, Ontario, including “Waiting for my Imagination” and “Unreliable Narrator.”  Her practice primarily focuses on depicting exaggerated childhood memories through various mediums. Tessa is currently working at the MacLaren as a lead instructor on the VanGo team. Her digital portfolio is available on Instagram @tessadeneumoustierart

Vivian Heliotis

Vivian Heliotis is a regional artist from Barrie, Ontario. She achieved her Honours Specialization of Visual arts at Western University in 2014. Since then, she has been inspired to share her love for the arts with her community.  She is a member of Spareroom Artist Studios where she does most of her painting. She has facilitated private and group paint classes for all ages, and taught art programming in elementary schools. Vivian has also showcased her art at local galleries and been an integral member of the vibrant local art community. Over the past year Vivian had her artwork included in the 2023 Brightening Barriers exhibition, participated in teaching painting in Culture Days Barrie and was involved in summer events such as Lawn Chair Luminata and Openair Dunlop doing crafts for children.She wants people to approach painting with an open mind and is eager to share her enthusiasm and love of art with the community at the Maclaren Art Centre.

Nurture your child’s creativity and self-awareness through a dynamic fusion of art and yoga! Join us for an exciting summer camp collaboration between the MacLaren Art Centre and Nook Yoga, designed for two age cohorts: 6-9 years old and 10-13 years old. This unique camp combines the best of yoga, meditation, and visual art to foster self-awareness, build strong relationships, manage stress, and explore emotions. This camp offers a holistic approach to personal growth, creativity, and well-being, providing a memorable summer experience for kids.

For half the day, campers will stretch and flow through kid-friendly yoga routines, building strength, flexibility, and body awareness at Nook Yoga with local yoga instructors Louise Pike & Sarah Lanoe-Paciocco. For the other half, they will dive into artistic activities that encourage self-expression, teamwork, and personal growth at the MacLaren with local artist Monica Loney. Children will leave with not only a collection of beautiful art pieces but also a greater sense of mindfulness, confidence, and an appreciation for their unique talents.

Louise Pike

Louise (she/her) is a passionate and dedicated yoga instructor who completed her YTT training at Nook in 2024. With 17 years of experience as a classroom educator, Louise has honed her skills in promoting mental health and enhancing well-being. Her holistic approach to yoga combines her love of learning with her passion for movement and mindfulness, creating an inclusive environment where students of all backgrounds and experience can connect with their inner strength and resilience. Louise’s journey with yoga began in her early 20s, and she continues to grow with the practice, inspiring others to embrace their own paths. As a Type 1 diabetic, she brings a unique perspective to challenges and sees opportunities for yoga to be accessible to all. Louise is also an adventurer at heart, always seeking new experiences and exploring the world around her.

Sarah Lanoe-Paciocco

Sarah (she/her) has over 20 years of experience practicing yoga and has recently completed Nooks 300 hour foundation training as well as the Flow training. Initially drawn to yoga for its physical benefits, she discovered that the practice offered so much more—a journey of self-discovery and emotional healing. This realization motivated her to share her love for the practice and the positive impact yoga had on her with others. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of connecting body, breath, and mind, fostering not only physical strength and flexibility but also emotional and mental resilience. When she’s not teaching or practicing yoga, she is a busy elementary school teacher and mom to her mini.

Monica Loney

Monica is a visual artist known for her use of the continuous line in her works to represent the universal connection we all share. She is no stranger to public art, and you can find her advocating for its importance within the community on guided tours as well as through her own large-scale pieces and installations located within Simcoe County. Monica was the recipient of the 2022 Emerging Artist Award for the City of Barrie and has recently received an Ontario Community Changemakers grant from 880 Cities. With this grant, she will continue her advocacy on the benefits of public art through her project The Transformative Power of Public Art in 2025.

Emily Cornish

Emily Cornish is a practicing artist and instructor for the VanGo program at the MacLaren. She graduated from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a focus on developmental psychology. Her artistic practice is mainly watercolour with most of the subjects being the Canadian landscape and the animals found there. Her works are often inspired by the sights she sees while on road trips, on hikes, or driving to work.

Naj Saghaei

Naj Saghaei is an artist, also a life & wellness coach, design consultant, as well as a lecturer. She started her artistic practice in 2010 at Gerrit Rietveld academy, Amsterdam focusing on art and design. Explored autonomous fine art at the Royal Academy of Art, the Hague, and continued her studies at the University of Arts, London, UK along with the minor of Psychoanalysis. She also obtained a certification of retail display design from the College of Central Saint Martins, UAL, London.

She is proud to be a life coach and combines art and wellness to provide a safe space for her clients (Thinking Partners) to walk along their challenging self discovery journey feeling felt, being seen, being heard and getting gotten.

She uses art, mindfulness, and coaching techniques to create a unique platform for her clients to connect with their inner self, discover their authentic self and fulfill goals. Currently she teaches art and wellness in a few museums/ Galleries, in her personal studio as well as her virtual classes.

Learn to master Procreate from scratch with Linda Laforge, experienced computer graphics instructor and portrait artist known as a live digital caricaturist. This informative and fun series will begin with the basics, starting with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil then focusing entirely on Procreate, a revolutionary tool to develop professional level creations. No previous experience necessary!

There will be Four Lessons to Ignition! We’ll lay the groundwork by analyzing the synergy between Procreate, the iPad Pro, and the Apple Pencil, and why this is the perfect combination for tackling illustration projects. Participants will receive tips on additional tools and accessories to enhance and improve their work and experience. You’ll tour the program's many brushes and drawing tools to create your own digital sketches and discover how to add images, text, edit your canvas, share images, record your drawing process, and so much more. We’ll explore filters and features such as Blur, Liquify, Recolor, and basic image editing functions.**Participants will complete one digital illustration or painting and learn to save the file in multiple formats.

Linda Laforge

Linda Laforge has instructed at Georgian College of Applied Arts and teaches art to groups and individuals. Linda was a member of the Barrie Arts Committee and is a founding member and organizer for Word Up, a local all genres reading series since 2014. The author of Anyone Can Draw in Ten Sessions, she guides creative journeys, both online and in person.

When she’s not creating heirloom portrait commissions, Linda is painting and writing. She is a storyteller. Her original work melds portraiture with her love of Celtic knot design to tell the stories of her subjects, mainly climate activists and heroic figures offering visual commentary on this time we live in.
