Salary: $30/hour – mileage for travel included

The MacLaren Art Centre is seeking a senior practicing visual artist to work on behalf of the MacLaren Art Centre. Funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Grant, a program for seniors by seniors, the practicing visual artist will deliver a series of sensory-based art workshops called SenSational Arts: Supporting Social Participation and Inclusion of Seniors through Art in Adult Day Programs in North Simcoe Muskoka across Simcoe County. This program will begin in May 2025 and continue through March 2026. The artist instructor will be actively involved in the development and implementation of this program. They will work alongside the MacLaren Education Officer to create methodologies and visual outcomes, as well as deliver these workshops to seniors at adult day programs in the region. In this capacity, the Artist Instructor functions as an ambassador for the MacLaren Art Centre as well as this innovative outreach for seniors’ program.

Qualifications:

  • Must be of senior age (55 years or older, as defined by the New Horizons for Seniors Grant funding).
  • Practicing visual artist with a BFA, college-level arts diploma, or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of teaching experience with adults and/or seniors.
  • Sound understanding of contemporary visual art and artistic practices.
  • Punctuality, flexibility, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to function as a team player and to work within a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid driver’s license and ongoing access to a working vehicle.
  • A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.

Assets:

  • Experience working within senior communities.
  • Working knowledge of another language, particularly French or Indigenous languages.
  • First Aid Certification.

The deadline for applications is 4 pm on Monday, April 21, 2025.

This is a casual contract position from May 2025 to March 2026. The Artist Instructor is expected to be available to work based on SenSational Art Program bookings, as scheduled and assigned.
