Studeo, Studio is a group exhibition featuring lens-based works that reveal the complexities of contemporary studio practice. This presentation, featuring works by artists Chris Curreri (Toronto), Geoffrey James (Toronto), Tricia Middleton (Montreal), Megan Morman (Lethbridge), Camille Rojas (Toronto) and Michael Vickers (Toronto), features unseen facets of the creative process, from poetic documentation of the space of the studio itself to cranial MRI scans of contemporary Canadian artists.
Studeo, the first-person singular conjugation of the Latin verb studere, is multifarious in its meanings: not only does it indicate a striving effort, but also the ongoing work of caring, thinking and studying—all implying engagements that extend beyond an initial making. Studeo Studio demonstrates that the work of creativity is not limited to a defined place, but continues in and outside the doors of a traditional studio.
