For over twenty-five years, Master Printer Stu Oxley has been the owner and operator of Riverside Studio in Elora, Ontario. Working collaboratively with senior Canadian and international artists, Oxley uses his own expertise to realize the vision of each artist in the printmaking medium. Oxley co-curates this show, selecting works that demonstrate the range of representational styles attainable in printmaking.
Artists at Riverside Studio features the work of nineteen artists. Produced between 1980 and 2015, the artworks in this exhibition represent the spectrum of artists Oxley has worked with since his beginnings as a studio assistant to Walter Bachinski at the University of Guelph. The featured artists include Walter Bachinski, Carl Beam, Brian Boigon, Joe Fafard, Ted Fullerton, Richard Gorenko, John Hartman, Stephen Hutchings, John Kissick, Marie Lannoo, Margaret Priest, Cheryl Ruddock, Tony Scherman, Neil Shawcross, Ron Shuebrook, Doug Stone, Frances Thomas, Tony Urquhart and Tim Zuck. A diverse range of aesthetics and intentions are showcased, from the more meditative works of Tony Urquhart to the wry humour of Brian Boigon’s. Oxley lends authority and shares anecdotes, opening the studio door and allowing us entry into Riverside’s bustling activities.
