Registration for the Winterfest Family Workshop opens at 12:30 on the day of the event. Sign-up at the MacLaren front desk. Space is limited.

Storytelling with Indigenous Artist Scott Debassige
11:00 am to 12:00 pm, The Carnegie Room

Join us for a story time with Ojibwe/Odawa artist and performer Scott Debassige, Sitting Bear of the Bear clan from M’chigeeng Reserve on Manitoulin Island in Northern Ontario. Incorporating singing, drumming and storytelling, families will learn traditional stories and be engaged by this fun and interactive event.

Volunteer and artisan Ingi Gould returns to host a cozy fireside story time exploring tales of wondrous wintery adventures! Fun for the whole family.

In Meltdown, a short animation by Carrie Mombourquette, a polar bear must try his luck finding a job in the big city when the last of his Arctic ice environment disappears. It’s Snow is a colour cut-out animation by Gayle Thomas inspired by the shape of snowflakes and touched with the airy magic of their fragile designs. In Ludovic: The Snow Gift by Co Hoedeman, a bear learns the meaning of friendship.

Winterfest Family Workshop
1:30 to 2:30 pm, Rotary Education Centre
Admission free. Registration required.
Join us for a creative Winterfest workshop! Led by regional artist Sean George, families will have fun working collaboratively to create a series of mixed-media artworks inspired by all things winter—from the colours of winter landscapes to the shapes and textures of snowflakes. Special thanks to J.P. Bickell for support of Family Sundays.

Performance by Simcoe Contemporary Dancers
2:30 to 3:30 pm, The Carnegie Room
Admission free. No registration required.
Join Simcoe Contemporary Dancers for an amazing performance, a structured improvisation inspired by the Two Legacies exhibition currently on view in the MacLaren’s Carnegie Room. At the same time, local artists are invited to draw the performers in real time. Up to sixteen easels will be provided. Pencils only are permitted as drawing material. SCD and their guest artists will also share works from their current repertoire and a sneak peek of new work-in-progress by SCD’s own Jacqui Brown.
