Celebrate Winterfest at the MacLaren!

Join us Sunday, February 2 for Winterfest 2020! The MacLaren Art Centre is excited to host a variety of winter-inspired events and workshops for all ages, including NFB short animation screenings, an interactive storytime with Indigenous artist Will Morin, a hands-on art workshop for families and special performances by Simcoe Contemporary Dancers.
Registration for the Winterfest Family Workshop and NFB Film Screenings opens at 12:30 on the day of the event. Sign-up at the MacLaren front desk. Space is limited.
Storytelling with Indigenous artist Will Morin
11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Carnegie Room
Admission free. No registration required
Join us for story time with Indigenous artist and performer Will Morin. Using props and asking for audience participation to enhance storytelling, Morin will relay traditional Anishinaabek Kinoomaagewin/Ojibway teachings.
Special NFB Screenings
1:10 to 1:30 pm, Rotary Education Centre
Admission free. Registration required.
Join us for two animated films for families based on popular books for children. In I Want a Dog, a short film by Sheldon Cohen, young May wants a dog more than anything but must stick to her motto, “If at first you don’t succeed, try again,” when convincing her parents. In Robert Doucet’s Blackberry Subway Jam, a film adaptation of the Robert Munsch book, a young boy has a major problem: his apartment has become a subway station and his mother doesn’t believe him.
Winterfest Family Workshop
1:30 to 2:30 pm, Rotary Education Centre
$5 per child/Admission free for MacLaren Members (Family Category); Materials provided. Sign up in person between 12:30 to 1 pm at the MacLaren reception desk.
Join us for a creative Winterfest! Led by a regional artist, families will have fun working collaboratively to create a series of artworks inspired by all things winter. Special thanks to Pie Education for support of Family Sundays.

Join Simcoe Contemporary Dancers and guests for a dance performance event! This event will include a performance inspired by the exhibition Bertram Brooker: This Tremendous Arc, a new work by Simcoe Contemporary Dancers Founder Sarah Lochhead, and a variety of guest artist works from our community!
