Rotary Education Centre, main level
On the last Wednesday of the month, bring your friends to the MacLaren to enjoy a hearty art party! In this new series of workshops for adults, a different regional artist takes over the MacLaren Education Centre to lead you in the creation of a project based on their area of expertise. Every month is a new and exciting experience! Pair your art-making session with pizza, a quesadilla or samosas and a glass of wine from our fully licensed Café to create the perfect evening. Beginner and intermediate levels of experience are welcome.
Join regional artist Katie Green for a hands-on art party, exploring embroidery on textiles with unique silkscreened imagery. Participants will learn the basics of embroidery by stitching over top of silkscreened imagery to embellish and personalize an illustrated image. Everyone will take home a hand-stitched work of art–perfect for hanging on your wall or giving as a one of a kind gift!
Katie Green is a painter and printmaker. Her work carries the aesthetic of pen and ink, the drawn line, even as it is translated into different mediums. She works with watercolour, block printing and screen printing.
She graduated with a BA with a minor in Fine Art studying photography under Thaddeus Holownia. She returned to school later to explore more in the studio focusing on printmaking and textiles. She won the Currys Award for 2nd Year Printmaking in 2012 at OCADU.
Interacting with the public is a large part of her practice. She started the Barrie Urban Sketching Club which continues to meet weekly to draw local buildings and is the chair of the Barrie Arts Committee with the mandate to communicate, advocate and unite the creative community in Barrie.
She recently completed her first solo show Urban Sketch: Drawings and where I take them at Art in House in Barrie and self-published her first book Downtown Barrie Colouring Book composed of 31 original drawings of buildings (and sculptures) in downtown Barrie. Her work is in many private collections and her design work is worn/shared widely in the area.
She lives and works in Barrie, but gets her inspiration from the things around her, both locally and while traveling.
