Painter, lithographer, teacher, mentor, traveler and diarist, Frederick Hagan was a great-grandson of Irish-English immigrants to Canada. Born in Cabbagetown, he was shaped as an artist by the streets of Toronto. From 1941 on, he was a resident of Newmarket. Hagan held a lifelong fondness for the York, Simcoe and Muskoka regions, their people, histories and fates.
