The Sarjeant Company Design Project 2016
April 16 to May 15, 2016
Molson Community Gallery
Reception: Thursday, May 7, 7:00 to 9:00 pm
In workshops led by regional artist Bernadette Wells, students from Penetanguishene Secondary School, Orillia Secondary School and St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School (Bracebridge) have created unique monumental designs. In addition to this exhibition of their artwork, three designs have been transferred to the drums of Sarjeant concrete trucks as a public art project and travelling exhibition.
Fifty-seven students from across Simcoe County participated in this project. Students were asked to create designs with a rotational composition and to consider images and text that would uniquely represent themselves and their school. The resulting exhibition displays their creative outcomes and varied approaches to this design challenge.
The MacLaren Art Centre and The Sarjeant Company would like to thank Mike MacMillan, IT Manager; Lee Anne Marshall, Inside Sales & Marketing Coordinator; Caitlin Erwin, Human Resources Assistant; Samantha Romanick, Fleet Administrator; and Renée van der Avoird, MacLaren Associate Curator, who assisted with the selection of images. A special thanks to Scott Elliott for making this project possible and to art teachers Shanandoah Kidd, Shalleen Riley and Karen Whytock and their students for their participation in this project.
