Regional artist John Hartman will offer an insider perspective on his private collection of historic photographs, which includes over 500 objects dating from 1858 to the present.

John Hartman was born in 1950 in Midland Ontario, and studied Fine Art at McMaster University. He has been the subject of several national and international exhibitions including Big North (1999-2002) and Cities (2007-2009). Photographs of the landscape and preparatory sketches are central to Hartman’s artistic practice, which is attentive to landscape and the ways in which human history is inscribed into its contours. His collection of historic photographs reveals some of his preoccupations in capturing the landscape.

Call ahead at (705) 720-1044 ext. 250 to pre-order your lunch at the Gallery Café. Please note: For groups, please notify the Gallery one week in advance as seating is limited in the Education Centre. With larger groups, all attendees may be hosted in an alternate gallery space, where food or drink is not permitted.
