TGIF! at the MacLaren Art Centre

Fridays, 3:00 - 5:00 pm
14 sessions (no classes March 19 and April 2).

Guided by regional artist Richard Sears, TGIF offers young people who are interested art a place to meet and be creative. All materials are supplied. Each week, participants will explore different forms of expression that are of interest to them. Participants of this programme are an integral part of the Barrie Banner Project and have the opportunity to work with guest artists in creating digital art to exhibit online and in the Molson Community Gallery.

Call for Participation

In conjunction with Canadian Mental Health Week  May 3 to May 9, the MacLarenArtCentre and the Canadian Mental Health Association in Barrie are extending a Call for Participation to youth across Simcoe County. Fighting the Stigma of Being "Different" is an Expressive Arts workshop on stigma, mental health and addictions, to be held on Saturday, March 27 from 10:00am to 4:00pm in the Rotary Education Centre at the MacLaren.

The Barrie Learning Centre, The MacLarenArtCentre and Friends of The Travelling Wave, an artist collective for peace, are pleased to invite you to participate in The Question of Peace , a juried exhibition of videos gathered from across Simcoe County and around the world, which will be on view at the Molson Community Gallery, May 13 to June 13, 2010 at the MacLarenArtCentre in downtown Barrie, Ontario. In conjunction with the exhibition, Turkish artist Reha Bilir will lead a workshop at TGIF on May 21.

Showcase your artistic and musical talents! The Teen Advisory Council (TAC) is hosting a Spring Coffeehouse at the MacLaren. The event includes multimedia displays, live music, readings and visual art. TAC assists the MacLarenArtCentre in the development of creative youth projects, events and exhibitions.

Bob Kain with his Chirp magazine illustrations

Cartoonist/illustrator Bob Kain, whose iconic illustrations for Chirp magazine have inspired generations of Canadian children, will lead participants in cartoon basics and techniques. Emphasis will be on the exploration of the imagination to produce inventive projects. Participants are encouraged to work on a variety of sizes and surfaces as well as individual and collaborative projects.

Join us for a special TGIF Workshop: The Question of Peace

Special guest: Turkish artist Reha Bilir will lead this workshop to highlight the subject and concerns of The Question of Peace, a juried exhibition of documentary videos drawn from  around the world and on display at the MacLaren from May 13 to June 13 in the Molson Community Gallery.

During the workshop, Reha will give students an opportunity to participate in the process through brainstorming and discussion.
