Welcome to MacLarenArtOnline, a searchable database featuring hundreds of artworks from the MacLaren's Permanent Collection. It is our hope that this initiative will allow more of our Collection to be seen and enjoyed by audiences locally, nationally, and around the world.

The first phase of this digitization project focuses on our Contemporary Canadian Collection. With generous financial support from the Government of Ontario, Business and the Arts' artsVest programme and The Sarjeant Company Ltd., we have photographed hundreds of contemporary artworks in our holdings to make these images available on our website with descriptive information on the artists and artworks. Given the size of our Collection, we can only exhibit a small portion at one time. Larger artworks are stored offsite. Our ability to address Collection inquiries on site is limited. As a research resource, the MacLaren's Collection online will allow access to artwork that might otherwise remain inaccessible, and allow access at any time. As well, digital images enhance our ability to protect fragile artwork, eliminating added handling.

We are committed to making our entire Permanent Collection accessible to the widest possible audience. In pursuit of that goal, we will continue to photograph artworks in our holdings, negotiate copyright agreements with artists and artist estates to feature their work on our website and add new images, increasing the scope of what we have to offer. We look forward to sharing our cultural legacy with you through this new venue.
