The Radio Café at the MacLarenArtCentre welcomes applications for Café Assistants to work in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. The Radio Café offers a variety of breakfast items, premium coffees and teas, and variety of healthy lunch options. The Café also provides catering for many of the events at the MacLaren, including meetings, lunches and dinners, opening receptions and donor events. In addition, the Café co-ordinates bar service for all events held at the gallery, including weddings and holiday parties.
Reporting to the Café Manager, this position involves learning the day-to-day operations of the Radio Café. The position involves greeting and serving customers, filling their orders and handling cash. Constant cleaning and restocking of the Café is required. Menu knowledge, as well as learning to prepare entrees, will be taught. Successful candidates must complete a vulnerable sector screening and criminal records check.
The successful candidate will have:
- Post-secondary training or equivalent experience in the food service industry
- Experience in food preparation, operation of an espresso machine
- Smart Serve certification
- Bartending skills an asset
- Experience handling cash
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Initiative, common sense and a good sense of humor
Radio Café hours: 7 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; Wednesdays open until 7 pm. Saturdays 7 am - 4pm and Sundays 10am – 4pm.
This is a permanent part-time position. Event hours available.
Pay: Minimum wage plus gratuities.
