About the Job
The MacLarenArtCentre seeks a full-time addition to its retail services team, who is knowledgeable about merchandizing and display as well as contemporary visual art and crafts. Reporting to the Administrator, the Gallery Shop Manager is responsible for retail and customer service experience and for the management of the Gallery Shop, including inventory, product development, ordering and purchasing stock, pricing, display, customer relations, sales, signage, liaising with regional artisans, attending trade shows to build consignment inventory, budgeting and financial management; handling the Gallery front reception desk, responding to general public inquiries; assisting the MacLaren team in enhancing customer service and visitor experience; and supervising Shop and front desk attendees. Additional responsibilities include facility rental bookings, tours, related promotion and assistance with event set-up and coordination. Qualifications

  • Postsecondary degree in visual art, art history, museum studies or a related field
  • Two years full-time retail management experience
  • Excellent knowledge of contemporary visual art and crafts in Canada
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with superior attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Computer literacy in all applicable software (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Familiarity with Smart Vendor
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Able to lift 15 kg

This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week within a flexible schedule) offering a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications, and a comprehensive benefit package after the initial three-month probation. The regular hours of work include Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 4 pm, Wednesday 5 pm to 7 pm and other hours as scheduled including evenings, with an average of 25 hours a week to the Gallery Shop and 15 hours a week to facility rental services.
