Artist Instructor: Children Programmes
Part-Time Contract Position
MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie

Reporting to the MacLaren Education Officer, the Artist Instructor is a practicing visual artist who works on behalf of the Gallery to deliver weekly studio-based programmes for children ages 6 to 13 at the Gallery from September to June. The main area of responsibility for the Artist Instructor is to teach children a variety of approaches to art making, employing a wide range of media while drawing inspiration from MacLaren exhibitions. In this capacity, the Artist Instructor functions as an ambassador for the MacLaren Art Centre as well as these long-standing children programmes.

Qualifications:

  • BFA degree or college-level diploma in the visual arts
  • At least one year in-class teaching experience with children
  • Sound understanding of contemporary visual art and artistic practices
  • Creative thinking and an innovative approach to programming
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Punctuality, flexibility and problem-solving skills
  • A valid driver’s license and on-going access to a working vehicle
  • A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening
  • First Aid Certification is an asset
  • Ability to lead programmes in French is an asset

This is a part-time contract position for the 2017/18 academic year from Tuesday, September 5, 2017 to Friday, June 29, 2018. The Artist Instructor is expected to be available to work days, evenings and/or weekends up to ten (10) hours per week, as agreed and scheduled.
